Welcome to the Holy Cow Project!

A charity-based project that enables volunteers to do extraordinary things by raising money and building a library at Uluru Children's Home in southern India. Establishment of this library will make an outstanding long-term contribution to the literacy of the children within the Home and the surrounding communities.

The Holy Cow Project is a 100% donation based volunteer driven project established in 2006. Our mission is to raise money in order to build a library at the Uluru Children's Home in Southern India. The Home was established by the Melbourne based East West Overseas Aid Foundation in 1992. This charitable organisation is completely funded by private donations. The home was initially set up for children who had been orphaned or abandoned by parents who lacked the resources to care effectively for their children. Originally 30 female children were housed there. When the Tsunami hit in 2004, 10,749 Indians died leaving more children parentless and homeless. This disaster hit southern India particularly hard and resulted in the Uluru Home accommodating an additional 50 children.

The home provides a safe center for the children to live, learn and be happy. Holy Cow's objective is to continue adding to this by creating an educational library where these children can continue to learn, grow and eventually contribute positively to their wider community.

To do this we need to raise A$200,000 by June 2007 to cover the costs of construction, materials, tools and airfares. We are intending to go to India in August 2007 for three weeks to undertake the construction. We would also ideally like to leave a sizable donation to the East West Overseas Aid Foundation to maintain the upkeep of the children's home so that more of India's destitute children can lead a happy, healthy and educated life!
